Pressure mounts on John Carver, but Newcastle United boss insists he won’t quit

The Daily Express claims the 45-year-old has emerged as a leading candidate to take over from interim boss Carver, who has won only two out of his 16 fixtures at the helm.

Jemez’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, meaning Toon owners would not have to shell out any money on a compensation package to lure him away from Spain.

Any deal almost certainly hinges on Newcastle’s ability to beat the dreaded relegation drop down to the Championship.

They are not mathematically safe yet and could still be sucked into trouble, as they sit only five points clear of the danger zone with four crucial matches remaining.

Carver was targeted by the home faithful and heavily-criticised after last weekend’s defeat at the hands of Swansea City at home, and his future in the dug-out looks bleak.
