The 31-year-old is out of contract this summer and is openly considering his options.
Mavuba, a France international, is unlikely to have a shortage of options, but appears to have made Ligue 1 side Bordeaux his destination of choice.
“In France, if I must play, it would obviously be at Lille or at Bordeaux,” he began, as reported by the Girondins club’s official website.
“Definitely, if Bordeaux come forward, it would make me think,” he continued, “as I have said, it’s a special club for me.”
Mavuba’s declaration may come as something of a blow to Rudi Garcia, the player’s former coach at Lille, who is believed to want a reunion with the experienced midfield star at AS Roma.
The veteran won the Coupe de la Ligue during a previous spell with Bordeaux, having also featured for Villarreal.
He won the Ligue 1 title with LOSC Lille in the 2010-11 season—the club’s first title triumph in 50 years.
