After taking the lead in the sixth minute through Colombian winger Wilder Guisao, Los Diablos Rojos had tried in vain to grab the crucial second goal. As the clocked ticked towards full time the tension in the home support was palpable, but Lobos’ goal has laid their fears to rest.
In truth the former Tigres UANL forward was somewhat fortuitous to get the goal. After being played in by Carlos Esquivel, the second half sub fired off his shot from a tight angle, and replays showed the goalkeeper will be disappointed not to have stopped it hitting the back of the net.
There are just two minutes to go, and a win for Toluca would see them return to the top eight with just two games of the season remaining.
