Former Liverpool forward John Aldridge believes that the Reds have to sign a striker if they want to compete with the best next season, reports the Daily Mirror.

The Merseyside club are in danger of seeing their season peter out after a disappointing 2-1 loss to Aston Villa in the semi finals of the FA Cup. They are also seven points behind fourth placed Manchester City in the Premier League, albeit with a game in hand. This has left them with a lot to do if they want to be playing in the Champions League next time round.
Aldridge believes that it is their failure to improve the forward line after the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona that has led to the drop off. They finished second in the top flight in the last campaign, with the Uruguayan one of their key players.
Manager Brendan Rodgers brought in Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli last summer to try and plug the gap, but neither player has impressed in their debut season. Daniel Sturridge’s injury woes also haven’t helped the Northern Irishman to rebuild his squad.
The 56-year-old said: “There’s a lot to sort out at Anfield in the summer, but item number one on the agenda should be firepower, firepower, firepower.
We’ve got a promising kid in Divock Origi coming in next season, but we simply have to go out and get another striker who can score goals. We have to fill that gap, because it will cost us big time if we don’t.”
