1) Pep Guardiola (Bayern Munich)

An ambitious target perhaps, but Pep Guardiola has been linked with Arsenal before and is undoubtedly a world class tactician whose philosophy would perfectly fit the Arsenal way that has become custom under Wenger – passing, technical, attacking football based on possession and carving teams open. Might there be too many other clubs keen on the Spaniard as well though?

2) Diego Simeone (Atletico Madrid)

Undoubtedly one of the best managers in the world, Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone would be a real coup for Arsenal after his work on a shoestring budget at the Vicente Calderon, though it is questionable whether that defensive-minded approach would win over the Emirates Stadium faithful.

3) Carlo Ancelotti (Real Madrid)

Formerly of Chelsea – a double winner in his first season in England, and a multiple Champions League winner with AC Milan and current club Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti would be a great appointment for Arsenal if they could get him, and there’s every chance he won’t survive beyond the end of this campaign at the Bernabeu, where managers don’t get a lot of time.

4) Rudi Garcia (AS Roma)

A manager who has done an impressive job at AS Roma, Rudi Garcia is another French tactician who could fit in well at Arsenal, having fought some big-name opposition whilst having to sell star players in his time at the Stadio Olimpico so far, though without a Serie A title to show for it.

5) Ronald Koeman (Southampton)

One of the managers of the season in the Premier League, Ronald Koeman has worked miracles to keep Southampton among the challengers for a European place given the number of player exits in the summer, all whilst playing some brilliantly stylish and ambitious football and achieving some great results against the big teams.

6) Thierry Henry

A wilcard option perhaps, but Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has been talked up as a future Gunners manager – could he already be the man to step into Wenger’s shoes if he quits the post at the end of this season?
