The 41-year-old is regarded as one of the best young coaches in Germany, and has taken a similar route to BVB as Klopp did before him. Tuchel managed Mainz for five years until 2014, similarly to 47-year-old who was in charge of the lesser side between 2001 and 2008. His successor led them to their highest ever finish in the Bundesliga before he stood down last year, although he is still under contract at Mainz until the summer.

The coach has since taken a year out of the sport, and this is only his second managerial job. Tuchel’s playing career was ended prematurely due to a chronic cartilage problem when he was 24-years-old. Between then and starting his coaching career the German completed a degree in English.
