The former Tottenham Hotspur boss will be hoping to see the in-form Belgian striker help the club into the FA Cup final with a win over Liverpool this weekend, but is also ready to accept that his best player might leave the club in the summer transfer window.
According to the Metro, Wolfsburg are currently among the leading candidates to snap him up, though the Daily Mirror reported that Liverpool were looking at him earlier this season.
Benteke certainly looks like a player who could make an impact at a bigger club, with Villa still not guaranteed their Premier League safety after a difficult season fighting against relegation.
Speaking about the 24-year-old’s future at the club, Sherwood said: “We don’t want to sell our best players. I also want players who want to play at the football club.
“He’s made no indication to me that he wants to play elsewhere. If he does then we will assess the situation but we want to keep him at the club.
“You can’t force any player, I’ve been one myself. You might as well take the money because you end up without the money or the player if you don’t take it.”
