The end of the Clausura 2015 is getting closer and the fight to avoid relegation is now focused on just two clubs – Puebla and Leones Negros. Veracruz and Chivas are the other two teams that could technically still get relegated, but thanks to Mexico’s convoluted relegation system one more win each will save them. They are currently first and second in the league.
The other clubs that have been relegated twice are Veracruz, Atlante, Necaxa and Ronaldinho’s Queretaro. Of these four, only Atlante and Necaxa currently play in the second division.
The first time Puebla were relegated was in the Summer of 1999. In that season Alfredo Tena was the manager for most of the season, but was fired after the team’s poor performance. The second time was six years later in the Clausura 2005. Three different managers managed the team that season and it took them almost three years to return to the top flight.
