Italian publication La Gazzetta Dello Sport has revealed that UEFA are considering organising an all star game between footballers playing in Northern European and those in Southern European leagues.

The match would have players from the Premier League, Bundesliga, Eredivisie, and Russian Premier League creating the Northern team. Meanwhile La Liga, Ligue 1, Serie A, and the Primeira Liga would form the opposition. However, the actual best players may not be chosen, as the report mentions that two or three players per ‘big’ club might be picked to make sure there is a wide participation in the event.
The fixture would be a friendly, and if it were to happen then 2017 is the earliest that it could be organised. The potential encounter is a very similar idea to the NBA All-Star fixture, where a team made of the Eastern Conference’s players faces a side created from the Western Conference every year.
So there is a chance we may be seeing Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the same team after all!
