The Italian striker has struggled to impress on Merseyside this season, scoring just the one league goal so far and missed the 4-1 defeat by Arsenal at the weekend through injury, but is now back in full training and could be handed a recall for what is shaping up to be the most important game in Liverpool’s season to date.
Following the loss at the Emirates, the Reds are now seven points off the top-four and Champions League qualification looks unlikely, meaning the FA Cup takes on added significance.
They will also be without the suspended trio of club captain Steven Gerrard, defender Martin Skrtel and highly-rated midfielder Emre Can for the game at Ewood Park, leaving manager Brendan Rodgers with a potential selection headache but he has confirmed the summer signing from AC Milan could feature:
“We’ve got a number of players unavailable for the game and we just need to see on one or two of the injured ones we had for the weekend.” he said to reporters ahead of the game (via Daily Express)
”We’ll see how they are and see if they’re available for Wednesday. We’ll see how Mario is this morning.” the Northern Irishman added.
