Club Atletico Lanus midfielder Matias Fritzler was left nursing an ugly wound to the face after being assaulted his club’s own supporters – in what is the second act of shocking violence in Argentine football within recent weeks.

At the end of March a brutal fight broke out in Argentina’s Primera B division, with both sets of players from Instituto and Guillermo Brown ending the fixture in chaos – and now the country’s Primera division has also hit the headlines for violence, in what is an appalling advert for Argentine football.
Lanus’ Fritzler was on his way to the dressing room at full-time following his side’s 1-0 defeat on home soil to Argentinos Juniors – but his journey was cut short when one furious fan threw a nasty punch to the midfielder’s face, resulting in blood pouring from his face.

Club president Alejandro Marón said, “It was a lamentable occurrence.
“We are going to expel the member that assaulted him as soon as we identify him,” as quoted by the Daily Mirror.
Since the incident, the culprit, Matias Fadiga, has been found, and suspended from the club, with his details handed to the local police.
