Anfield contract rebel hotly tipped to conduct a Merseyside exit but is surely not set to move to Old Trafford?
The Daily Star have astonishing, and more than likely inaccurately, claimed that Man United are set to launch a £50m bid for Liverpool attacker Raheem Sterling.
Here’s five reasons why this move will never ever happen!
Liverpool would never sell to Man United
The Anfield side have seen the likes of Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez make high profile exits in recent seasons but if they did elect to offload Raheem Sterling, and that’s a big IF, they would never ever consider selling to their arch rivals.
Such a move would anger their fans in a big way and would be deemed as showing an alarming lack of ambition.
Raheem Sterling would not be brave/silly (delete as appropriate) enough to consider leaving Anfield for Old Trafford
If the 20 year old does elect to force a Liverpool exit he wouldn’t dream of pushing to move to Man United, right?
Sterling already looks as though he’s not showing his side a great deal of loyalty, turning down a massive pay-rise and discussing his future despite still having more than two years to run on his current contract.
Can you imagine just how swiftly Liverpool’s fans would turn on Sterling should he move to United?
Number 31 shirts will be burned in mass bonfires!
He’s not THAT good
Whilst there is no denying the potential the speedy attacker possesses it’s arguable that he is still to deliver the goods in a consistent enough fashion. The sums banded about in relation to a potential transfer, the Daily Star valuing the player at £50m, just don’t match his displays to date.
The stats don’t lie, in 120 appearances Sterling has racked up a total of 22 goals and 16 assists, that’s hardly prolific is it….
Louis van Gaal doesn’t need Raheem Sterling
The Dutch manager forked out a British record fee to sign Angel di Maria and has the likes of Juan Mata, Adnan Januzaj and Ashley Young to call upon in wide-areas so it’s unclear as to why Man United would be chasing the Liverpool man at this juncture.
Arsenal move more likely
A move to the Emirates Stadium does perhaps seem the more likely option for Sterling, Arsene Wenger being well known for his penchant for bringing in youthful prospects.
It is worth noting that at this moment in time the Liverpool man would struggle to make the Gunners starting eleven given the in-form talents the French manager currently has at his disposal.
The Daily Mirror claim that such a move is a possibility though.
