After a slow start to the campaign, Les Dogues find themselves in eighth place in the Ligue 1 table. They are four points behind Montpellier Herault Sport Club in seventh, having played a game more, and are seven and eleven points behind Girondins de Bordeaux and AS Saint-Etienne respectively.

However, free of any pressure, the Northerners are eyeing a strong finish to the campaign.

They continue this weekend against Reims, who are themselves trying to pull away from the relegation zone.

Looking ahead to the fixture, versatile Senegalese defender Djibril Sidibe has revealed that his side are still targeting a strong a finish as is possible over the final eight matches.

“Things came together with the victory against Lyon,” he began, speaking to L’Equipe, “after the halt against Saint-Etienne [when Lille lost 2-0 before the international break] we still want to go as far as possible in the standings.

“This is a good test at home against Reims.

“In solidarity and in spirit, we haven’t given up.”

Sidibe looks set to play an important role over the coming weeks. He has made 15 Ligue 1 starts so far this term and is likely to be the chief benefactor from a recent season-ending injury suffered by left-back Franck Beria.
