Liverpool could be better off without Raheem Sterling, and this is why
Is this the real reason Sterling won’t sign a Liverpool deal?

The England international bemoaned the club’s letting go of Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard, claiming that he wants to be surrounded by “world-class players” and win trophies – in quotes that will no doubt infuriate boss Brendan Rodgers, as well as his team-mates.

Scholes, who came through the youth ranks at Old Trafford, cannot get his head around the behaviour of Sterling – insisting that the 20-year-old has everything – and more – that a player at his age could ask for.

In his column for the Independent, the former Red Devils midfielder wrote, ‘When it comes to his future, my view is that Raheem Sterling should stay at Liverpool.

‘They have elevated him from the junior sides and he has a manager who has built a team around him. He plays every week. What more do you need at that age?’

He added: ‘Sterling is a good player. He can beat a man and on his day he looks impressive. But he doesn’t score enough goals, not yet anyway.

The 40-year-old also went on to say that young players, such as Sterling, forget how perfect their current careers are, and the importance of hard-work, when they know they have a place in the starting XI.

‘You have to be careful when you time a move to one of the biggest clubs.

‘Occasionally, these young players do not realise what a good thing they are on to when they know that they will be playing every week.’
