The 23-year-old has just six Bundesliga goals in twenty-six appearances this season, but that has not put Louis van Gaal’s side off, with the Metro suggesting that United will pay £18.6m for the forward.

Despite a modest goalscoring record this campaign, the Daily Mail reported that his boss with the Brazilian national side, Dunga claimed that he was capable of playing for any club.

He boasts a better record during his brief career with Brazil. He opened his account with the winner in a friendly against Austria last year, and also got the crucial goal in Sunday’s narrow victory over Chile at the Emirates, taking his tally to two goals from four caps.

Any Arsenal fans in attendance at their home ground for the South American friendly would have been hoping that his appearance would become a more common occurrence in the near future, as they along with Liverpool, were two of the other clubs keeping a keen eye on Firmino. But it now appears that both have missed out on his signature.
