With Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane joint top of the Premier League scoring charts with 19 goals, the youngster has a real chance of an historic season if he pips the likes of Chelsea’s Diego Costa and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero to the award.

Tottenham transfer news
Kane may be away with England on international duty at the moment, but he will soon be back to domestic matters again and will have some big landmarks in his sights if he does go on to finish as top scorer in the division for 2014/15…
1) First Spurs winner since Teddy Sheringham
Tottenham may have had some great strikers and attacking players in the Premier League era – Robbie Keane, Dimitar Berbatov, Gareth Bale – but none managed a Golden Boot win during their time at White Hart Lane. The last player to do so, in fact, was Teddy Sheringham from all the way back in 1992/93 – the first season of the Premier League.
2) Youngest winner since Michael Owen
Still only 21, Kane could become the youngest Golden Boot winner since a certain Michael Owen, who twice won the award for Liverpool (jointly) in 1998 and 1999. A remarkable achievement if the up-and-coming front-man can manage it.
3) First English winner since Kevin Phillips
With so may foreign stars dominating the Premier League in the last decade and more, Kane could actually be the first English winner of the prize since Kevin Phillips’ 30 goals for Sunderland were enough to take the prize in 2000 – incredible considering big names such as Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney have been active since then.
4) First winner from non-top four club since 2000
Although it may be a little early to say, the top four looks out of reach for Tottenham this season, meaning Kane would also be the first winner of the prize whilst playing for a club out of the top four since Phillips in 2000.
