CB) John Stones, 20-years-old, Everton
If you ask many Toffees fans they will probably tell you that the former Barnsley man should have been chosen by Roy Hodgson ahead of Phil Jagielka. However, he wasn’t and will possibly get more game time in the younger group.
CB) Phil Jones, 23-years-old, Manchester United
Started for alongside Gary Cahill against Lithuania on Friday so may be wanted by the seniors for their matches, but at the same time some tournament experience could do the defender good.
CM) Jack Wilshere, 23-years-old, Arsenal
If injuries hadn’t been a problem for the midfielder then he may well be a regular in the men’s team by now. As it is he is on the sidelines again, and some time with the Under 21’s may be a good part of his rehabilitation.
CM) Ross Barkley, 21-years-old, Everton
Not having the same impact this season as he did in the last, but still one of the most talented young players in the country. The Blues ace could regain some confidence in Southgate’s team.
