The 20-year-old played the entire 90 minutes for England on Friday night, scoring his first international goal in the 4-0 win against Lithuania, and is set to miss the game against Italy on Tuesday in order to give him maximum rest ahead of the game against the Gunners.

The news will come as a relief for Reds manager Brendan Rodgers who is already without the suspended duo of Steven Gerrard and Martin Skrtel, while Daniel Sturridge will also miss the game due to injury and there are doubts over Simon Mignolet and Adam Lallana according to the Daily Mail.

Following Liverpool’s defeat against bitter rivals Manchester United, the game against Arsene Wenger side’s has taken on added importance as anything less than a win will dent their hopes of qualifying for next season Champions League.

Sterling could also be used in the centre-forward role at the Emirates, given Sturridge’s absence and Rodgers reluctance to use Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert or Fabio Borini.
