The Spanish international wins the award, marking a big turnaround in his Old Trafford career, going from an impact player often from the substitutes bench to one of the key players in the squad.
After failing to start a game since United’s win against QPR in January, Mata was recalled to the starting line-up against Tottenham in place of the suspended Angel di Maria and went on to produce a very good performance, then a week later against Liverpool he was voted man-of-the-match after scoring a brace including a stunning bicycle kick which proved to be the winner at Anfield.
Those last two games seem to have finally kick-started the 26-year-old’s career at Old Trafford just weeks after he was linked with a possible return to Spain with his former club Valencia by the Daily Mirror, but he has fought to win his place in the side and will now be looking to help United secure a top-four finish this season.
