Arsenal have been told that they will have to pay £60 million if they want to sign Juventus forward Alvaro Morata ahead of Real Madrid, according to the Daily Express.

The Gunners are chasing the 22-year-old despite the good form of current striker Olivier Giroud, who has 17 goals in 27 appearances this season, whilst Morata has netted just 12 times in 35 games for the Old Lady of Italian football.

Morata’s price-tag is inflated because Los Blancos have an option to re-sign the striker after selling him to the Turin side before this season. However, this clause could be bypassed if Arsene Wenger splashes the cash.

The transfers of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in recent years have shown that the Frenchman is starting to shed his reputation as a scrimper in the transfer market.

Arsenal could be boosted by the fact that the youngster appears against a move back to the Bernabeu, with comments about his relationship with his former club indicating the forward wouldn’t be keen on a return to the Spanish giants.

He said:”I still don’t understand how I could have gone from strong performances in the pitch to being left out of the squad. I didn’t expect to be a starter, but I did expect a better treatment. I barely had a relationship with [Real Madrid Coach Carlo] Ancelotti, while [Juventus Coach Max] Allegri gives me much greater consideration.”
