Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw’s time at Old Trafford is not going as well as many would have hoped, with Jeremy Cross of the Daily Star writing that the youngster may not have what it takes to make it at the very top level.

The England international joined for around £30m from Southampton in the summer, arriving as one of the most highly regarded young talents in the country, but has struggled for playing time.
Cross points out that Daley Blind’s performance for United at left-back this weekend could continue to keep Shaw out of the team, while there are a number of other contenders for that spot in Roy Hodgson’s side.
Still, is this a bit of an exaggeration after less than one full season with United? Not everyone hits the ground running after a big move – just look at Gareth Bale’s transformation from left-back flop to world class forward during his time with Tottenham Hotspur, having also made the move up from Southampton.
Shaw was not necessarily a signing for this season, but one for the future, and it is all too common these days for players to be written off far too quickly.
Surely if United felt this teenage talent was worth investing £30m in, they will not judge him after just one campaign. Even if he needs time out on loan to develop, it seems a bit crazy to say he has no future at this level, even if he does seem worryingly injury-prone.
