Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood has revealed that the club hierarchy were willing to ditch star striker Harry Kane as recently as last January in a bid to bring in a more experienced option, according to the Daily Mail.

Kane, included in the latest England squad for the first time could see him make his debut against either Lithuania on Friday or Italy the week after as his form in front of goal has made him impossible for Roy Hodgson to ignore.
However, Sherwood, who is now in charge of Aston Villa, has revealed that there were rumblings off moving the 21-year-old on in order to make room for someone more experienced.
“It was impossible for Roy Hodgson to ignore Harry Kane. He’s done everything. We have to remember he wasn’t always one of our own at Tottenham,” he said.
“It’s great I resisted the temptation to get rid of him last January because perhaps he wouldn’t be the star he is for Tottenham.
“(It was} never (a possibility), in my opinion, but there were people at club who wanted to bring in another striker and sacrifice Harry Kane. I wouldn’t allow that to happen. He got his opportunity and now he’s bouncing forward.
“You knew the mentality desire and passion for the game was second to none. He has got tremendous self-belief. He doesn’t see anyone as competition to him, he just sees himself and is willing to improve.”
Sherwood also added that Spurs duo Cristian Eriksen and Gylfi Sigurdsson were in large part responsible for Kane’s rise to prominence this term.
“A lot of credit should go to Christian Eriksen, Gylfi Sigurdsson. Those two guys, along with Harry, spent hours on that training field, striking balls, working on left side, working on the right side. I think they showed Harry Kane the way to train properly.”
