The Red Devils beat Tottenham on Sunday to make their position in the top four safer, and they are now looking to push on again. In their sights are the reigning Premier League champions and fierce rivals Manchester City.

They will probably have to get past Arsenal as well if they want to finish ahead of the Citizens, but with the race so tight it is certainly looking possible.

Carrick believes they have every chance, and had this to say about the possibility of finishing second: “Yes, we’ve got to aim for that. We’re within touching distance now. You look at the table now and it’s so tight. But I suppose really we’ve just got to look to next Sunday at Liverpool.

“There are going to be ups and downs because that’s how it is, especially in the last nine or 10 games. Sunday is a big game for a lot of reasons and that is probably all we can focus on at the moment.”

This will be a hard task for Louis van Gaal’s team, with matches against Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal all still to come. It is a real possibility that they might not even be in the top four by the end of the week, as they have to travel to Anfield on Sunday only two points ahead of the Merseyside club.
