The Old Trafford side have been tracking the 23 year old and are considering making a £30m offer for the Brazilian international, such have been the glowing reports coming in from the club’s scouting network.
Firmino netted 16 goals and provided 11 assists last term and has continued to impress this season and Hoffenheim may struggle to keep hold of their prized asset much longer.
Van Gaal has reverted to using Wayne Rooney as his central striking option, with Robin Van Persie injured and Radamel Falcao suffering a poor run of form, and may be keen on strengthening his attack this summer.
Firmino can be used in an attacking midfield role as well in the ‘hole’ behind a striker.
