Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson tried to persuade Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo to return to the club this summer in a meeting over dinner in Spain, according to AS.

The Scot has been known to have a good relationship with Ronaldo, whom he brought to Old Trafford in 2003 and helped become the best player in the world before his £80m move to the Bernabeu in 2009.
United are believed to be interested in bringing the Portuguese international back to the club, with Ferguson in attendance as Real lost to Schalke in the Champions League this week.
It is thought that Ferguson has made an initial approach to lure Ronaldo back to Manchester, though it remains to be seen if a deal can be struck in the summer.
