Long-term Arsenal transfer target preparing to make big decision on his future

Arsenal are set to miss out on long-term transfer target Sami Khedira and return to Germany, according to reports in the Spanish media. The 27-year-old has supposedly agreed on a move to Schalke, who he will join when his Real Madrid contract expires at the end of the season.

The World Cup winning midfielder won’t have any switch confirmed until June, but Marca believes that a deal is already done with Roberto Di Matteo’s side, who reportedly jumped at the chance to agree a deal with the talented player.

Arsene Wenger attempted to sign Khedira for the Gunners last summer, but failed to agree on a wage packet for the Champions League winner. A number of other European sides have also shown an interest in the player, but Schalke are thought to have won the race for his signature.

Khedira joined Madrid from Stuttgard in 2010, after impressing in that year’s World Cup in South Africa, where he helped the German’s reach the semi-finals. Due to injuries and form, he’s only made 35 appearances in all competitions over the last two years, and is looking for a change.
