Writing on Twitter last week, as reported by Caught Offside, Batshuayi outlined his decision to represent the Red Devils at senior level. Batshuayi has featured for Belgium at U21 and has chosen to stick with the European side rather than play for the nation of his parents.
Ibenge has revealed that he knew about the striker’s decision and bears no grudge following Batshuayi’s decision to snub Congo.
“I had the player on the phone,” Ibenge began, as reported by actu.cd, “as well as his father.
“I was already aware of his choice. I respect his choice, but what I don’t understand is the people who insult the player.
“I am ashamed for them.”
Ibenge guided the Leopards to third place at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea and would have been keen to add hotshot Batshuayi to his talented squad.
