Here’s who we think they’ll go with:

GK) Simon Mignolet

Excellent against Besiktas, and near-perfect over the last month of fixtures, but he’ll need a big performance against City’s star-studded strikeforce.

DRC) Emre Can

Played in midfield against Besiktas, but should be moved back into the defensive three to help cope with City’s attacking threat. If Henderson isn’t fit, then Kolo Toure will likely start.

DLC) Dejan Lovren

Needs a big response after his penalty heartbreak against Besiktas, and he’ll certainly have his hands full with Sergio Aguero and co.

DC) Martin Skrtel

Captained the team well in the absence of Henderson against Besiktas, and will need to be on top form again to deal with this one.

MR) Lazar Markovic

Returns from suspension to replace Jordon Ibe, who limped out of the game against Besiktas. Reds fan will be hoping to the teenager is at least fit enough to make the bench.

ML) Alberto Moreno

The Spaniard looked excellent against Besiktas, and will be eager to make up for his mistake against City in the second game of the season.

MC) Joe Allen

Has improved in recent games, and needs to continue that trend if he’s to get the better of the midfield battle.

MC) Jordan Henderson

Not a certainty for this game, but considering the lack of midfield options currently available to Rodgers, we think he’ll take a chance.

AM) Raheem Sterling

Struggled to make an impact against Besiktas, and as he continues to haggle over a new contract, he needs to start performing better.

AM) Philippe Coutinho

The Brazilian was left-out of Thursday’s game, so will hope to be fully rested coming into the game with City.

ST) Daniel Sturridge

Like Sterling, he was poor against Besiktas, and has struggled with a slight injury niggle over the last couple of days. However, Rodgers has backed him to start, and he’ll no doubt be eager to impress against his former side.
