Liverpool transfer news
Philippe Coutinho (£8.5m) vs Samir Nasri (£25m)
How Inter Milan let Philippe Coutinho join Liverpool for such a cheap fee is beyond anyone who’s seen the Brazilian youngster in the Premier League. Still only 22, the Reds playmaker can go on to become one of the best in the world in his position, while Samir Nasri has totally gone backwards since joining from Arsenal for a ridiculous £25m, doing precious little for City this afternoon.
Daniel Sturridge (£12m) vs Stevan Jovetic (£22m)
Something of a reject at Chelsea, Brendan Rodgers saw potential in Daniel Sturridge and that faith has been rewarded. The England international only cost £12m and has been superb for Liverpool, while £22m Stevan Jovetic looks like he was badly overhyped in Serie A and has done nothing of note in English football.
Raheem Sterling (£600k) vs Jesus Navas (£17m)
A great find at a young age, Raheem Sterling cost just £600k in compensation to Queens Park Rangers, and could now be valued at around £50m. The 20-year-old has risen to become one of Liverpool’s most important players and one of the best youngsters in the world. Jesus Navas, in contrast, cost £17m and didn’t even make the squad at Anfield today after a highly inconsistent couple of seasons at City.
Mamadou Sakho (£15m) vs Eliaquim Mangala (£32m)
Although a little slow to settle, Mamadou Sakho has been much improved for Liverpool this season and looks a great buy at just £15m – less than half of what City paid to sign Eliaquim Mangala from Porto, who has been hugely disappointing in a badly disorganised City defence this season.
Emre Can (£9.75m) vs Fernandinho (£34m)
Signed for less than £10m, Emre Can is 21 years old and looks to have the world at his feet. The German can play in a number of positions, either in defence or midfield, and has been tipped to become a future captain at Liverpool. City, meanwhile spent a mad £34m to sign Fernandinho who has failed to live up to expectation and who surely can’t improve a great deal at the age of 29.
