Kaka – Orlando City SC
It is more than 10 years since Kaka helped Brazil win the World Cup, but the former AC Milan and Real Madrid playmaker still has so much to offer. If he stays injury free, he could destroy MLS defences all across the nation.
David Villa – New York City
Villa’s career goalscoring record is incredible – he netted 59 times in 97 senior internationals for Spain. If the 33-year-old hadn’t opted to move to the MLS, quite a few Premier League clubs would have been very keen on bringing him to England.
Sebastian Giovinco – Toronto FC
He’s only 28, so Giovinco’s move to Toronto has done a lot to dispel the traditional myth that the MLS is where European players go when the can no longer hack it on our continent. At 5ft 5in, the little Italian is likely to be one of the smallest players in MLS 2015, but he has the potential to make a huge impact.
Frank Lampard – New York City FC
What is there to say about Super Frank that hasn’t already been said? Not much! His stats speak for themselves… 29 goals in 106 senior caps for England and 211 goals in all comps for Chelsea, making him the Blues’ all-time leading marksman – not bad for a midfielder!
Bradley Wright-Phillips – New York Red Bulls
BWP, son of Arsenal legend Ian Wright, didn’t make much of a splash in England during spells at Manchester City, Southampton, Plymouth Argyle, Charlton Athletic and Brentford. However, he has been a revelation since joining the Red Bulls. He won the MLS Golden Boot in 2014, thanks to 27 goals in 32 league games.
Gyasi Zardes – Los Angeles Galaxy
The 23-year-old, who is instantly recognisable because of his dyed blond Mohawk, is not at all short on self-belief. He told the draft room in 2013 that his skill will ‘blow minds’. He didn’t really deliver in his first season, but last term he scored 16 goals, having formed an excellent strike partnership with Robbie Keane.
Steven Gerrard – Liverpool
Gerrard is the best English player of his generation, even though he never won a Premier League title. He has won the Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup, mind you. And, having signed for the Galaxy, he has every chance of adding the MLS to that list of honours!
