FIFA announced yesterday that the tournament in the Middle-East will take place in November and December, severely disrupting the English domestic season.
England are believed to be one of as many as fifty countries whose league will be affected by the timing of the competition.
While the decision was largely expected before the announcement, Scudamore is annoyed that the World Cup final could be as late as December 23rd, just three days before the traditional Boxing day fixture list.
“Our particular concern is that a Fifa World Cup that finishes late in December could result in damaging one of the English game’s great traditions and attractions, with the removal of the entire Premier League, Football League and FA Cup Christmas and New Year fixture programme that season,” Scudamore said.
Scudamore has revealed that the league will now consult with the clubs and stakeholders, including the broadcasters before they confirm whether any legal action will be taken.
“Clearly there is still time within the process to consider our position further before deciding on what, if any, further action might be appropriate. It is clear that the views of the European leagues have not been given serious consideration,” he added.
