(Video) Goal! Liverpool 2-0 Southampton: Has Raheem Sterling Won It For The Reds?
Here’s how the Reds players rated:
GK Simon Mignolet – 5
Exposed today in poor weather, the Belgian is a good shot stopper but his distribution with a slippery ball was shocking.
CB Dejan Lovren – 4
Misplaced five of his first six passes and should have been sent off in the first half, standard ineptitude from the Croatian.
CB Martin Skrtel – 6
A calm presence at the back, without much to do because of a lacking attacking impetus from Southampton.
CB Emre Can – 5
Had a poor referee to thank for not conceding a penalty, other than that he looked off colour comparative to what we have seen him do.
RWB Jordan Ibe (Johnson 75′) – 7
A disciplined performance which saw him get forward when possible, having a good run on 10 minutes, but also look after his defensive duties.
CM Jordan Henderson – 6
Competent display, but gave away too many fouls and wasted a good chance going forward after being put through by Moreno.
CM Joe Allen – 5
Ineffectual on an attacking viewpoint, but helped his side retain possession which was important in this game.
LWB Lazar Markovic (Moreno 45′) – 4
Not a defender by any stretch, left Can exposed against Clyne who was bombing forward at will.
RW Adam Lallana (Sturridge 62′) – 5
The occasion may have got to the England international, gave the ball away at will.
LW Phillipe Coutinho – 8
A touch of pure class put his side in front and his brilliance lit up a match which was sorely lacking.
CF Raheem Sterling – 7
Looked more dangerous playing off Sturridge and took his second half goal well.
Subs:
Glen Johnson – 5
Never really got into the game, did contribute to Reds clean sheet though.
Alberto Moreno – 7
Got forward well, providing an assist for Sterling’s goal.
Daniel Sturridge – 6
Helped Sterling’s game, who looked a lot more comfortable playing off the striker, was a little isolated in a game devoid of quality.
