The win at St Mary’s brought up a run of ten Premier League games without defeat and having seen Tottenham draw with West Ham, and Man United lose at Swansea City, Rodgers has every right to be cheered by events this weekend.
“To come here off the back of a tough European week and score two wonderful goals and not to concede was huge.
“The first period of the season was nothing like the level we have been at in my time at the club so we had to find a solution.
“We relish every game. We have got Manchester City and Manchester United to play at home and Arsenal away. For us it was a big step to go two points behind United.”
Goals from Coutinho and Raheem Sterling saw Liverpool complete a 2-0 win on the south-coast and the three point haul takes them above Spurs and into sixth spot just two points behind fourth placed Man United.
