The Portuguese, former Balon d’Or winner emerged as a shock candidate for the role in January as a host of other candidates emerged to attempt to stop the re-election of Sepp Blatter.
Figo is part of just a handful of challengers to the incumbent president Blatter after receiving the requisite five votes needed to put forward his bid for the role.
And the 42 year old can now count on the support of footballing icon David Beckham, the two became friends as teammates at Real Madrid.
“I welcome the candidacy of my friend Luis,” said Beckham, reports the Sun.
“Any successful organ-isation needs good people who are passionate about the game.”
The 42-year-old is up against FIFA vice-president Prince Ali bin al-Hussein, the chairman of the Dutch FA Michael van Praag and Blatter for the role.
Ex-Spurs star David Ginola attempted to challenge for the role in world football’s governing body with the backing of bookmaker Paddy Power but failed to register the required backing of five national footballing bodies.
