Manchester United Star Says Van Gaal Does Want To Play Attractive Football… Honest

Defender believes the criticism is fair.

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans admits that the team can perform much better than they have done this season, and that they have become ‘scrappy’.

The Red Devils have come under intense scrutiny for their play this campaign, particularly having spent so much money over the summer to acquire big star signings, such as Angel di Maria, Radamel Falcao and Ander Herrera.

While the below-par performances have been getting the results, as they sit third in the Premier League and progress to the sixth-round of the FA Cup, the 27-year-old knows that attractive football is demanded.

“I think as players we know that we could perform better,” Evans was quoted by the Daily Star.

“I think the manager wants us to play more attractive football.”

Van Gaal was criticised for heavily for their performances against Cambridge United and West Ham United – teams that the Premier League giants should be able to dismiss comfortably even with their reserves – yet they struggled and resorted to ugly long-ball tactics.

“I think everyone’s saying that we have been getting decent enough results – we have had a few draws which we would have liked to have been wins – but I think it’s maybe the way we have played,” he continued.

“As players we are always analysing that and everyone wants to play nice, attractive football. A lot of games have been dictated by opponents applying pressure.

“They have made them scrappy and I think once we get the ball down and show our composure I think the football will be attractive.”
