In a heartwarming story, Bayern Munich have offered to pay the medical bills of 30 Ukrainian children who were injured in the country’s ongoing conflict with Russia during their visit to Lviv to play Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Bundesliga leaders arrived in Ukraine on Monday, hot off the 8-0 demolition of Hamburg, ahead of their Champions League Last 16 first leg against Shakhtar, who have been forced to temporarily relocate their home games to Lviv due to safety concerns and in a bid to escape military bombing.
Shatkhtar’s relocation means they will now play their home games 770 miles away from Donetsk, meaning Bayern fans will surprisngly have to travel one mile less than the fans of the home team to attend the match.
Fighting in Ukraine has killed 5,400 people over the past 10 months and bombing continued this week in the east of the country, bringing into question the ceasefire whichcame into effect this Sunday.
The city of Donetsk has suffered badly from military shelling as a dispute for Ukraine’s independence rages on, with Shakhtar’s £260 million Donnbass Arena damaged in August.
