Talk of a move for the 25 year old German international is a little hard to fathom given that Reus signed a new contract extension with his Westfalenstadion side earlier this week.
Reus had been strongly linked with a move away from his struggling Bundesliga outfit, with a £20m release clause said to have been hanging over the forward, but now that he has tied himself to Borussia Dortmund until 2019 one would have assumed such talk was over.
It appears Louis van Gaal still covets Reus and perhaps the new deal merely ups his valuation, enticing bids that Dortmund may struggle to turn down, especially given Jurgen Klopp’s side are likely to miss out on a Champions League berth for next term.
Dortmund had been bottom of the table until a recent upturn in fortunes with Marco Reus netting in successive wins that have slightly improved the club’s standing.
Louis van Gaal will not have been all that impressed with the efforts of loaned in forward Radamel Falcao whilst Robin van Persie has struggled for form of late.
Wayne Rooney has been used in a more withdrawn role in recent months and as such talk of a fresh attacking signing appears plausible.
