Liverpool defender Kolo Toure has confirmed his retirement from international football in the aftermath of Ivory Coast’s victory in the African Cup of Nations, reports the Daily Mail.

The 33-year-old has been playing for the Elephants for the last 15 years, making 117 appearances and scoring seven times. He has ended on a high with the AFCON trophy after losing the last two finals before this year.
“It is with great emotion that I inform you that it is time to say goodbye. My goal was to win the Africa Cup of Nations and I must admit that it was a very difficult decision to make,” the former Arsenal man said.
“I do love my country and especially love football, but at some point, there comes a time to stop.”
This will be good news for Brendan Rodgers, with the centre-back now able to concentrate on his club career. The Reds will be hoping that this has a positive effect, with them needing all the help they can get in order to get in to the top four of the Premier League.
To compound the effect on the Ivory Coast side, manager Herve Renard may also leave to take over of the Egypt national side in the near future.
