Their anger dates back to 2010 when the Scot’s son Darren Ferguson was sacked by the club, leading United to recall a number of loan players almost straight away, which did not help their bid to fight relegation to League One, where they have remained ever since.
Ferguson is now a club ambassador for United and watches a number of games, and he will be under extra supervision for this particular trip.
United have not played a competitive game at Deepdale since 1972, but it is the third consecutive round in which the Red Devils have drawn lower league opposition in the cup this season.
