1) 8-0 loss to Chelsea
A humiliating result towards the end of the 2012/13 season, Aston Villa were absolutely battered by Chelsea in an 8-0 scoreline at Stamford Bridge – undoubtedly one of the club’s worst days in the Premier League.
2) Defeat to Bradford
Another shocking result, Aston Villa were beaten 4-3 on aggregate by League 2 side Bradford City in the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup in 2012/13, looking distinctly second best throughout the tie.
3) Signing Grant Holt
A most unambitious and uninspiring signing, Paul Lambert brought in one of his old favourites from Norwich City, Grant Holt, but the move was a disaster for a player who was clearly nothing more than a one-season wonder in the Premier League.
4) Long goal drought
Their goalscoring performances this season under Lambert are among the worst ever seen. A lengthy drought lasting longer than the Godfather trilogy is currently set to see the Villains become the lowest scorers in Premier League history.
5) Handling of Darren Bent
For all the goalscoring problems (plus the ridiculous signing of Grant Holt), it remains something of a mystery as to why expert goal-poacher Darren Bent has been so frozen out by Lambert at Villa Park, and there’s no question the former England man could’ve offered something to this side.
