Brendan Rodgers has set his sights on the 24 year old Argentine international and will hope that proposed changes to work permit regulations would improve his side’s chances of landing the former Atletico Madrid man.
Current rules stipulate that players outside the EU must have played in a significant proportion of their national team side’s fixtures and given that Salvio has just five caps to his name, since making his debut in 2009, one imagines the Anfield side could currently struggle to secure the relevant documentation to land the player.
Salvio is into his third season at Benfica and is a key member of Jorge Jesus’s side.
Having converted Raheem Sterling from a wide-attacker into a central striker there is seemingly a need to sign a high quality winger, especially when you consider the likes of Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic are yet to truly deliver the goods, and Salvio may be an intelligent option to consider.
