The 24 year old Italian international, who moved to the Westfalenstadion last summer, has started less than half his side’s Bundesliga fixtures this term and is apparently likely to leave at the end of the season if Jurgen Klopp’s side don’t pull away from the relegation zone.
Immobile bagged 22 Serie A goals last term, a supreme feat when you consider he was with relatively moderate performers Torino, and that led to a £15.5m move to Germany.
Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers had shown an interest in Immobile before he moved to Dortmund and is ready to make a fresh move at the end of the current campaign as he seeks to strengthen his attack.
Neither Rickie Lambert nor Mario Balotelli have impressed since their summer moves to Anfield and as such a new addition or two may be made in the summer.
Immobile has bagged just three Bundesliga goals this term though his record at Champions League level, four goals in four starts, is perhaps evidence of his ability to perform at the highest level.
