Here are the player ratings for the Red Devils…

GK) David De Gea, 9

Not for the first time this season Louis van Gaal owed the result to the unbelievable form of his keeper. A string of impressive saves meant that they were only ever a goal behind.

RB) Antonio Valencia, 5

Stewart Downing was able to put several crosses in to the box from the Ecuadorian’s position, and he didn’t add much going forward either.

LB) Luke Shaw, 6

Looked promising when getting up the pitch, but similarly to Valencia he was unreliable when defending and paid with an eventual red card.

CB) Phil Jones, 7

Did well to defend numerous balls in to the box against the Hammers’ forwards.

CB) Marcos Rojo, 6

With Jones defending the high balls it was down to the Argentinian to use his pace when the ball was on the ground. There were a couple of occasions when Enner Valencia was able to get past him.

CDM) Daley Blind, 6

Deserves credit for grabbing the equaliser with a quality volley, but found it difficult to stop Alex Song from starting attacks.

CM) Wayne Rooney, 4

Its not completely the England captain’s fault as he is not a central midfielder. However, he did give the ball away several times and did little in the way of good defensive work.

CM) Adnan Januzaj, 5

The youngster was invisible for the majority of his time on the pitch.

CAM) Angel Di Maria, 5

Wasn’t invisible like Januzaj, but didn’t look anything like a £59 million player.

ST) Radamel Falcao, 4

Missed a couple of great chances, and surely Louis van Gaal won’t pay his exorbitant fee to keep the Columbian in the summer?

ST) Robin van Persie, 4

Also disappointing, the former Arsenal man’s lack of movement meant the West Ham defence was never stretched.

SUB) Marouane Fellaini, 7

Did what he always does and was a physical presence in the Hammers’ box. A team like United shouldn’t have to rely on this type of tactic though.

SUB) Chris Smalling, 6

Only on the pitch for two minutes.
