Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson has attempted to play down an unsavoury incident with Crystal Palace star James McArthur where he appeared to strangle the midfielder.

Pearson has claimed he was simply defending himself after McArthur accidentally knocked the Leicester coach to the ground as he attempted to control a ball on the touchline.

But Pearson seemed to grab the Palace star by the throat and only relented after he was diffused by referee Lee Mason.

“I didn’t see that one coming if I am honest, Pearson said after the match, reports Daily Mirror.

“But there you are. I was pushed to the floor and held my own.”

This is the second incident this season where the Foxes coach has been involved in a bust-up on the sidelines after exchanging abusive words with a Leicester fan during his side’s home defeat to Liverpool.

And it doesn’t distract from the fact that the Foxes currently sit rock bottom of the Premier League after suffering their third straight defeat.

“We made plenty of good situations today, but we are talking about the same things again, which is us not turning positive performances into results,” said Pearson of his side’s performance.

“That’s why we are where we are in the table at the moment.”
