In what might be the clearest indication yet that his future at the Etihad is under question, Jovetic will not be part of the City team that will face Barcelona in the round of 16 of the European Cup competition.
It was expected that either Bacary Sagna or Edin Dzeko would face the chop from Manuel Pellegrini’s 21 man squad to make way for the former Swansea City man but it has now been confirmed that it is Jovetic who will not play.
City had their 2014/15 Champions League squad cut from 25 to 21 players for breaching Financial Fair Play rules and so under normal circumstances this would most likely not have happened.
The 25 year old former Fiorentina forward, Jovetic, has made just one start in Europe this season for City and four appearances from the bench, scoring no goals but providing one assist against Bayern Munich.
