Should the Yellow and Blacks be relegated come the end of the season it stands to reason that European football’s top table would be waiting on standby to poach their best talent. Here are five players who could leave if they don’t improve:

Mats Hummels

Dortmund captain and Germany international Mats Hummels is widely regarded as one of the world’s best centre backs which makes the German side’s decline even more surprising.

He has been touted for a move away from Signal Iduna Park for a long time but with Manchester United thought to be lining him up, according to the Express, he could be on his way.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

The 26-year-old Armenian was a one-time Liverpool target and they may re-ignite their interest in him, reported in the Echo. It is reasonable to assume he would favour the Premier League over the German second tier.

Ilkay Gundogan

Gundogan was one of Europe’s hot properties when he broke into the Dortmund first team but a long term injury has given him a spell on the sidelines. He has made no secret of his desire to play in the Premier League and could move to Manchester United if his team are relegated according to the Express.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

According to the Express Aubameyang to Chelsea was a prospect and one would have thought a move to west London would be more attractive than playing Bundesliga 2. football for the jet-heeled winger.

Marco Reus

Dortmund’s prize asset would have no shortage of suitors if he chose to leave and it would simply be a choice of who to sign for. According to the Mirror he does not favour a move to Barcelona because of competition for places but he could be open to a move anywhere else.
