Reds linked with deal late in the January window and could return in the summer…
John Aldridge has said that Liverpool’s move for Danny Ings is a potential transfer masterstroke from Brendan Rodgers.

The Reds made a shock move for the Burnley forward and a deal looked to be near before Burnley released a statement stating they wouldn’t entertain selling their star man for any price.
However, former Liverpool striker Aldridge says the potential deal for the English youngster would be a clever and successful move for a Premier League ready and proven goalscorer.
“Ings has got great potential, and he’s scoring goals for a Burnley team that hasn’t been doing much of that since being promoted.
“I’d rather see us spend £5million on someone like Ings than spend the same amount on, say, Iago Aspas, someone from abroad who doesn’t really know about the English game,” said Aldridge in his column for Liverpool Echo.
Liverpool have struggled with their forward stars this season after summer signings Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli have not, even partly, been able to fill the void left by Luis Suarez.
Paired with the long term injury to Daniel Sturridge and the Reds forward line has been lacklustre at best.
But with the signing of Ings, Liverpool would get a Premier League proven scorer and possibly for free as the 22 year old’s contract expires this summer and he is yet to commit to a new deal.
“Big goalscorers cost about £50m-£60m, so that won’t be happening,” Aldridge continued.
“Ings wouldn’t be regarded as much of a gamble given what we’ve spent in the past on some players,” said Aldridge.
“He knows where the goal is and he will improve.”
