With last night’s transfer window mayhem taking over our lives, it would have been easy to forget the action-packed weekend of Premier League football that went before.
However, to recap, here are some very interesting statistics from each of Saturday and Sunday’s games…
Hull City 0-3 Newcastle United
Newcastle scored three goals in a Premier League away game for the first time since March 2014, when they also won at Hull – 4-1.
The home team have dominated matches between Newcastle and Hull in recent years. In the past eight meetings there have three draws and five away wins.
Yoann Gouffran scored Newcastle’s third goal on the day. It was the Magpies’ ninth Premier League goal from a substitute this season – three more than any other side.
Crystal Palace 0-1 Everton
Everton have now scored four goals in the opening five minutes of matches this season – more than any other Premier League team.
Prior to Saturday, Everton had lost five consecutive away games.
The Toffees have now won on five of their last seven trips to Selhurst Park.
Liverpool 2-0 West Ham United
The Hammers have still not won an away league game at Liverpool since 1963. They have lost 31 and drawn 11 of their last 42 matches at Anfield.
Lucas Leiva played the full 90 minutes for Liverpool, who are significantly better when he is in the team.
The Reds have won eight of 12 Premier League matches in which the Brazilian has started this season – that’s 67%. When he has not, they have won just three of 11 (27%).
Manchester United 3-1 Leicester City
Marcin Wasilewski’s consolation strike was the 300th goal that United have conceded at Old Trafford in Premier League history.
Leicester has registered six shots on target in their two games against United this season, scoring with all of them.
At the other end, United loanee Radamel Falcao has now scored four goals and made three assists in nine league starts.
Stoke City 3-1 Queens Park Rangers
QPR are now the first side to lose their first 11 away matches in a top-flight season since Liverpool in the 1953/54 campaign.
Jonathan Walters scored a perfect hat-trick – one with his left foot, one with his right and one header.
It was the Premier League’s first perfect hat-trick since May 19 2013, when Kevin Nolan and Romelu Lukaku both got one.
Sunderland 2-0 Burnley
Burnley have now conceded more headed goals this season – 12 – than any other team in the Premier League.
The Clarets are the 33rd different team that Jermain Defoe has scored against in the Premier League. He has only faced 37 sides – impressive record!
Defoe has scored in 14 consecutive Premier League seasons.
West Bromwich Albion 0-3 Tottenham Hotspur
Christian Eriksen’s brilliant first-half free-kick was his ninth Premier League goal of the season, making him the top-scoring midfielder in the division this term.
Harry Kane, who bagged a brace at the Hawthorns, has now scored 20 goals in all competitions in the 2014-15 campaign – more than any other Premier League player. Sergio Aguero is second with 19.
Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City
David Silva scored seven Premier League goals last season – his best tally for City.
Following his strike at Stamford Bridge, the Spaniard has seven goals already this term.
Chelsea only registered three shots on Saturday – the fewest they have made in a league match since the 2003/04 campaign.
Arsenal 5-0 Aston Villa
Gunners star Mesut Ozil has been involved four goals this season – scoring two and making two assists. All four of those goals have come against Villa.
Olivier Giroud, who opened the scoring on Sunday, has now scored five times in his last six league outings.
It is an embarrassing 612 minutes since Villa last scored a league goal. They have had 18 shots on target since they last found the net.
Southampton 0-1 Swansea City
Southampton’s first failure to score in seven league matches coincided with their first defeat in seven games against Swansea.
Swansea registered just one shot on target, compared to the Southampton’s six. The Swans made 48 defensive clearances in this game, while Southampton made five.
