The 26-year-old moved to the Red Devils in 2007 for a large undisclosed fee, but failed to make an impact at the Premier League giants in the eight years that he spent with them. In his time there he played 181 times, but scored just nine goals. Given the cost of the move – believed to be around the £20 million mark – the transfer has been seen as one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s biggest mistakes as manager of United.

New manager Louis van Gaal has not trusted the Brazilian since arriving at the Mancunian side, playing hims just twice this season. As such, the midfielder’s move back to his home country is no surprise.

Anderson will be officially presented as a player at Internacional at eight o’clock UK time on Tuesday. No transfer fee is mentioned in the release from the side.
