Chelsea transfer news
The 36-year-old, on loan at City from MLS side New York City FC, has been in fine form this season since his surprise exit from Chelsea after thirteen years with the club.
Although undoubtedly still a Chelsea legend for his many years of great service, Lampard has angered some sections of supporters by moving to a Premier League rival, and he will return to Stamford Bridge for the first time since his exit this weekend when the two sides meet in an all-important clash between the two main title rivals.
It has been suggested that the former England international may even get something of a frosty reception, but Redknapp, who worked with Lampard as a youngster at West Ham United, believes he deserves a warm reception as he is one of the Blues’ best-ever players.
“Surely he should get a good reception shouldn’t he?” Redknapp said.
“He has to be one of the all-time great Chelsea players. They’ve had some fantastic players over the years and he’s one of the all-time greats.”
